Product Description

Here at DelonixRadar we no longer sell the Escort X50, however for Australian or New Zealand customers, we recommend purchasing from www.radardetectorsaustralia.com.au/detail/escort-passport-8500-x50/ - as this is the cheapest price in $AU dollars / $NZD offered by any online or offline seller in Australia and New Zealand. Otherwise you could risk it, and try buying one off eBay.

Escort X50 Customer Testimonials:

"Well I have had several encounters with different types of radar over the last week. Firstly on the way back from down south, I detected a multanova from at least 500m away (it was aiming straight down the road), and I could struggle to even see it when the Ka band went off.  This occurred right after a change in speed"...  "I just wanted to say thanks for all the advice you gave me on the radars. The Escort X50 that I got is awesome so thanks again. I don't speed that much but with the new speeding fine increases in WA it has paid itself off ALREADY!... Click HERE to read the full email

"I purchased the Escort X50 8500 radar detector approximately one month ago from Delonix Radar.  During the first week of use, I didn't notice the performance that I was expecting and had read about in so many reviews.  However, this was not a problem, as Delonix Radar gladly tested another unit and switched it over"... Installation and Programming the ESCORT X50

The Escort X50 is easily installed into the windshield by attaching the metal bracket supplied to the 8500 X50, and then pressing the two vacuum cups at the desired position on the windshield.  We recommend mounting the detector in the middle of the windscreen, either up high next to the rear vision mirror or down low at the dash level, as long as it clears any physical objects such as the windscreen wipers.  For a detailed explanation on which position is best to mount it, see our FAQ page

ESCORT X50 TESTS

The Escort X50 is one of the best entry level windscreen mounted radar detectors, suitable for use in Western Australia or New Zealand (at the time of writing radar detectors are still legal in both WA and NZ)

Outperforming the Whistlers in every test we have conducted, and offering great detection of Multaonovas - especially when mounted vertically.

The Escort X50 can detect Ka radar band (used by dash mounted radar in Police cars in Eastern Australia up to 17km! The sensitivity is superb to detect weak signals from hidden "over the hill" radar traps and hidden "around the curve" radar traps. Average radar detectors do not provide this level of sensitivity. The Multanova speed cameras used in Western Australia are also Ka band radar, but they are "Ka-narrow band". The power emitting from these units is far less than the dash mounted Ka band radar guns. The the Escort X50 radar detector is a good unit for picking up these very weak (low powered) signals - but it certainly isn't the best, as it has a little difficulty picking up the weak reflected signal from a rear facing Multanova speed camera.

The 8500 X50 is also good at filtering out false noise alerts.

Radar - During road testing of the Escort X50 in the United States, Speed Measurement Labs logged a typical 11 mile distance detection of Ka radar. This is extremely good detection range and the very best sensitivity.

False alerts are minimized by turning off X band for Australia, although automatic doors and the like sometimes share K band frequencies. We noted some POP3 alerts, but this is due to having to detect a very fast, (67millisecond) POP3, burst radar pulse, and having very little time to determine if it is a real radar signal or a false laser signal. The high radar detection sensitivity of the 8500 X50 causes the POP3 false alerts to increase.

We recommend POP3 to be turned off in Australia and Highway X to be turned off. This permits fewer false noise alerts and allows the superb detection sensitivity to be used for your protection.

Laser - During testing, we have encountered a few laser speed traps. The difficulty with detecting laser is that the laser beam is so narrow it may not even trigger your laser detector. Laser is typically aimed at the front number plate, as the plate offers a good perpendicular reflective surface for the laser beam. Since the Escort X50 is mounted on the windscreen, and the laser at the number plate or headlights, at close ranges the laser beam is so narrow that none of it will "spill" over the bonnet and trigger your detector - especially if your radar is mounted up high on the windscreen, such as behind your rear-view mirror. For this reason, it is our opinion that a laser detector is a waste of time, on its own, as it essentially is a "ticket notifier". By the time your detector has (if indeed it does) gone off, the police has your speed. We recommend partnering your detector with a good laser countermeasure.

Hi mate, i recently came across a new radar detector that is made in oz suited for oz conditions, called "Vengeance" - I was just wondering how this compares to the Valentine 1, as couldnt find any info on it. Would like to know your info on this and which one would be more suited for wa, ta.

It's an Asian manufactured radar detector (it's not made in Oz) imported solely by radars.com.au
I haven't tested one myself, so I cannot comment on it's performance.
But for a proven track record on being one of the best performers around, look at http://www.guysoflidar.com/radar-detector-test-august-2009/staged-real-world-tests.html

i have a problem of choosing what is the best radar detective, i am from Qatar in the arabian gulf, i can not remember which type of radar they are using, but i am shore it is with k or ka of ku band, the radar took foto from the back, i am not interesting in invisible radar and not interesting with GPS one, i want easy installed one, so which one you advise me to buy

Based on your requirements mentioned, the number one choice for you is definitely the Valentine One, also please read best radar detector
