The Passport SRX provides maximum warning for all radar and laser signals: conventional and instant-on X-band, K-band, and SuperWide Ka-band. Advanced Digital Signal Processing provides longer warning without increasing false alarms. Multiple low-noise laser sensors provide maximum range against targeting laser guns. Recommended for WA and NZ.
"Blessed with this tantalizing combination of features and unique capabilities, I'd hesitate to call the new Escort Passport SRX a radar/laser detector. More accurately it's an integrated radar/laser protection system and an effective tool for the driving enthusiast."
The Escort SRX is a great Remote mounted radar detector. It is 100%
invisible to VG2 RDD, but not invisible to Spectre II, Spectre III and
Stalcar RDD (used in Australia). Performance ratings discussed below.
Radar – We logged a typical 8 mile distance
detection of Ka radar on flat terrain. This is good detection
sensitivity. Detecting hidden radar traps “Over the Hill” and “Around
Blind Curves” is important. We found the higher the SRX is installed,
the better the radar detection performance. If you have a ski rack,
consider installing above for superb radar detection on X, K and Ka
radar bands. The SRX is average at filtering out false noise alerts.
False alerts can be minimized by turning off X band radar detection, but
we also discovered that some police are resorting back to X band radar,
knowing that many drivers turn X band off. We suggest that you drive
with X band on in New Jersey due to their continued use of X band. The
SWS detector alerts (special K band safety alerts) when turned on and
selected, will alert you to road hazards and construction; if the SWS
transmitter technology is used by road crews and ambulances. We found
that we would often encounter road hazard situations, but sometimes the
Bel did not alert due to the SWS technology not being used by the road
crews and ambulances. POP3 can not be detected by the SRX.
Laser - During our road tests, we encountered a few
laser alerts from police. Since the SRX detects laser from the grille,
it can detect every laser aimed at your vehicle. But detecting laser by
itself is not sufficient, since detecting laser only tells you that the
police aimed the very narrow light beam at your vehicle, you detected it
and they have your speed. The Driver must detect laser and jam it in
order to protect your self from police laser guns. We also found false
laser alerts with no police anywhere nearby. The false laser alerts are
caused by bright, repetitive reflections off the white painted road
stripes at the center of the highway. It is also caused by bright
reflections off the metal side rails along side the highway. This false
noise does not occur very often and is caused by sunlight reflections,
guardrail reflections. If you want laser protection, buy the M20 Laser
Jammer or M40 laser jammer and install the products into the grille,
where the police aim laser guns.
The Escort SRX product is
sleek in design and easily installs into the grille of the vehicle, wiring
into the 12Vdc fuse box in the vehicle cockpit. The Radar module is compact
and can be installed nearly anywhere in the front, the higher the better. If
you have a ski rack, consider installing on top, as your detection
performance will improve. If installing into the grille, on the ski rack or
under the bumper, ensure there is no metal in front of the radar detector
face. The laser detectors, one front laser module installed into the grille;
the rear detector is installed on the rear license plate. If the SRX Plus
was ordered, two laser shifters (jammers) will be installed into the front
grille, one laser shifter installed on the rear plate.
Consider the Blinder M40
Laser Jammer as a superb protection against laser guns. If you detect a
laser gun only, it is too late, as the laser gun already has your speed. If
you install the Blinder M40 Laser Jammer, it will detect and jam the laser
gun before it has a chance to detect your speed. It has a self test function
when power is turned on. Check the Installation Manual for details.
Installation/Tips
Radar
- The radar detector module (4” long x 3” wide x 1.75” tall) is one
of the smallest, high performance packages we have seen. It is small
enough to install into tight areas behind a fiberglass fender, under
a steel fender or bumper, above a truck cab. It is water tight and
will operate with excellent stability in any environment for long
periods of driving. The radar detector, laser detector modules,
display all plug in to the interface with telephone jacks; making
the electrical set up very easy. The only hard wires required are
the 12Vdc wire and the ground wire. Everything else is plug in. It
has an 18 foot cable length on the remote radar detector, enough
distance to install in the back of a sports car and hide the cabling
under the carpet and seats; long enough to install in the back of a
dual cab pickup and still connect to the SRX interface, located in
the center console or dash of the vehicle cockpit. Make sure no
metal is in front of the radar detector. Glass, plastic, rubber, and
fiberglass is no problem.
Laser
- The Laser Detector modules must be installed level to the road and
pointed straight down the road, not to the right, not to the left.
The modules must be installed in the grille or the license plate, as
designed and make sure no physical object blocks the view of the
front detectors. One laser detector module (not a jammer) is
installed into the front grille, and one laser detector (not a
jammer) installed on the rear license plate.
Display
– The Display (4” wide, 9/16” tall, 1.75” deep) is a very nice
package and can be located almost anywhere on the vehicle. Make sure
the installer is qualified to do this, as you would want only a
highly skilled technician with superb detail experience to install
the display into your dash. The bezel will fit over the display,
making it look like it came from the factory installed in this
manner.
